This year Maurice celebrates his 61st year in show business. He started at the age of nine, touring in Variety. At 13, he went to London to study at the Corona Academy of Theatre Arts. After his studies, he went on to play in repertories at Perth, Colchester and Oxford.
By the age of 17, he had his own TV series for BBC Children's Hour and has consequently worked in every aspect of the profession, including radio, film and also cabaret, both here and abroad with the act Jo Jac Joni.
On TV, he has worked in such diverse productions as Vanity Fair, The Goodies, Poirot, The Bill, Pride and Prejudice, The Julie Andrews Special, Morte D'Arthur and too many others to mention. He is also no stranger to musical theatre, as this production of Dirty Dancing will be Maurice's 21st production in the West End, the most notable of these being The Boys From Syracuse, Fiddler on the Roof, Show Boat, Bar Mitzvah Boy, Windy City, No No Nannette, Gone with the Wind, Billy, 42nd Street in which he created the role of Andy Lee and lastly, The Witches of Eastwick. Not forgetting, of course, several Royal Command performances and many award and charity shows.
Throughout his career, he has taught at many of the top drama and theatre schools including LAMDA, Guildhall and Central. He became Head of the Student Division of the Corona Academy and was Principal of The Academy of Musical Theatre for four years.
Maurice and his wife Sandy have been married for 47 years. They have three children, Tracy, Tjden and Sophie who have produced for them eight grand children, Joe & Sam, Molly & Tallulah, Thomas, Katy Mo, Holly and most recently Francesca.
